a new idea

i recently have been thinking a lot about music (lyrics and sound), and more specifically the titles songs have been given. so now i have this dream; to keep an ongoing list of my favorite songs that i will then interpret into a digital illustration. i see this as a long, ongoing project.. but i am pretty excited about it!

to shed water (and to keep my feet happy)

things i'm into...

things i'm into this week...

1. dice. i think they kind of look like little buildings with lights in the window.
2. landscapes and cityscapes. ok, i know it seems a little redundant considering all we have been doing with the 7, but i am still into them. nothing beats a beautiful landscape that can sweep your mind into another place, even if it is for just a short moment.
3. woodgrain. ah my favorite texture. this really should be added to my list of things i am always into (if it is not there already)
4. soundwaves. what an interesting thing to think about and visualize.
5. ekg monitors. a visual lifeline. cool.
6. layering photos. i just learned how to do this in photoshop and it has changed my life. for serious.
7. my own personal sun. my house is freezing, and thus i am involved in the greatest love affair with my space heater (i write as i sit on the floor with my face 7 inches away from it)
8. black line drawings. hand sketches are so beautiful- there is just something so right about a black line drawing torn out of a sketchbook.
9. string and wood. i love the juxtaposition between the two textures and forms. i am looking forward to making a few wall hangings incorporating yarn and sticks.
10. a winter picnic. i want throw on my sorel boots, a cozy cardigan and adventure to a frosty place where snow is but a beautiful sprinkling accessory to the landscape. taking with me supplies for smores, a fleece blanket, a good bottle of red wine, my camera, and deer friends i love. oh, the scene i dream.

the landscapes of my day

today i interpreted wood and wood grain as a landscape. i think that rough cut natural woodgrain is one of the most beautiful things my eyes see. today i investigated some patterns i found in some chunks of wood. i translate woodgrain as being a natural pattern that can often be found in technology and textiles. it uses lines to tell a story and patters to give information about its life. i see the interactions between grains as a landscape in itself, but i also included a wooden cityscape that i saw today. the woodgrain city.

i like the sound of today's date.

worlds collide.

the founding Gs

an interesting take on a landscape... snoop dogg is one of the most fascinating people to me and i guess you could say he represents urban culture. mt. rushmore is in an extremely rural place in the middle of dessert south dakota. so here is a landscape mash up of two of my photos... snoop vs our founding fathers. the founding Gs...

ace of spades wall paper mosaic

i typically am not a huge fan of black, white, and red together, but i felt that this color combo gave the crisp and deviously enchanting look i was going for.
here is 2 sections of the tessellation...

and quite a few more...

ace of spades

what is shaping up to be a lengthy project...

i am really looking forward to tracing more of the pattern and creating mosaics out of the cut away pattern. i am also really excited about the interaction between the flat white and the porous texture of the card. i am excited about the shapes colors, and the reverse side of the card... maybe playing some hide and seek.

deer
this is a drawing of a deer that i did a couple years ago, that i just found and revisited. i took a picture of the drawing, put it into illustrator, cleaned it up, and added some new texture. i find myself continually inspired by deer. i think they are beautiful in all their innocence, creatures that appear vulnerable but are strong and have an instinct to fight for their honor. they move so eloquently and prance with utter grace. i am inspired by their tranquil yet ever moving lifestyle.
